We collect only the personal data necessary for the provision of our memorial services and the operation of our platform. Given the sensitive nature of these services, we treat all information with particular care.
Personal accounts: When creating an account, we collect your first name, last name and email address. Authentication is passwordless, by means of one-time login codes sent to your email address; we therefore do not collect or store any passwords. If you create an account on behalf of a family to manage a death notice, we may collect additional information about your relationship to the deceased.
Professional accounts: If you represent a funeral home, an association or another organisation, we collect the name of your organisation, business details (company address, identification number, VAT number) and your professional contact information.
Information about deceased persons: For the publication of death notices, we collect biographical information such as name, first names, maiden name, dates of birth and death, place of residence, and information about the funeral ceremony.
Memorial content: Photos of the deceased, tribute texts, condolence messages, shared memories, testimonials and any other information you choose to publish to honour the memory of the deceased.
Family information: Where necessary to establish the legitimacy of a publication, we may collect information about family relationships and the persons authorised to manage the death notice.
Condolences and testimonials: First name, last name, email address and content of the condolence messages you publish.
Memorial donations: When you make a memorial donation, the necessary information (donor's name, amount, beneficiary association, any message) is processed through our donation infrastructure. Donations are in principle paid directly to the beneficiary association via its Stripe Connect account; in that case, the association acts as recipient and controller of its own processing of the donation data it receives.
Notification preferences: Alerts for new death notices in certain regions, memorial anniversary notifications, subscriptions to updates.
When you order memorial flowers or a memorial tree, we collect the information necessary to fulfil the order: name of the deceased, place, date and time of the ceremony, any accompanying message, your name as the person placing the order and your contact details. This data is transmitted to the relevant fulfilment partners to the extent strictly necessary (see Section 6.7).
Information you provide in your user profile and preferences. We also collect data about your use of the Service, such as the notices viewed, condolences posted, time spent on certain pages and the frequency of your visits.
If you use our paid services or make a donation, payment details are collected via our secure processor Stripe. Funere does not store your full payment card details; we retain only transaction records (last four digits, dates and amounts) for billing history.
When you use funere.com, our systems automatically collect certain technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, cookie identifiers. We also record information about how you arrived at our site and how you interact with our Service.
If you contact us (support, special requests, complaints) or subscribe to our newsletter, we collect the information you provide and keep records of our correspondence.
Important: We do not intentionally collect sensitive medical data. Information about causes of death is collected only if voluntarily provided and necessary for publication.
Most information is provided directly when registering, creating death notices, posting condolences, ordering memorial flowers or trees, making memorial donations or contacting support.

We may receive death notice information from public sources (civil status registers, newspaper and media publications), from partner funeral homes or other legitimate sources to keep our database up to date.

We treat your data with the utmost care, particularly given its sensitive nature. We never sell personal data relating to memorial services. We share certain data with trusted providers who help us deliver our services.
Stripe processes payments for paid services and memorial donations. Your payment details are transmitted directly to Stripe. We receive only a payment confirmation and basic details for record-keeping. For memorial donations, the payment is in principle processed via the beneficiary association's Stripe Connect account, so that the funds and the associated payment data are directed straight to the association.
Our platform uses Clerk for the secure management of user accounts. Clerk manages your email address, the sending of one-time login codes and the authentication tokens for secure sign-ins. No passwords are stored.
We use Google Analytics with IP anonymisation to understand site usage and improve the user experience. The data is processed in a privacy-respectful manner.
Our host Vercel provides performance and usage analytics to help us maintain a quality service for bereaved families.
We use PostHog to test and improve features, with pseudonymous identifiers to analyse usage without compromising privacy.
Brevo manages the sending of verification emails, login codes, important notifications and newsletters. Only your email address and name are shared, according to your preferences.
For the fulfilment of memorial flower orders, we transmit to the funeral homes, florists or other providers in charge of preparation and delivery the data strictly necessary: name of the deceased, place, date and time of the ceremony, accompanying message and name of the person placing the order. For memorial trees, our planting partner receives only the information necessary to carry out the planting. These partners are required to process this data solely for the purpose of fulfilling the order.
All our application data, including death notices and memorial content, is stored on secure AWS servers located in the European Union, with encryption and appropriate protection measures.
For memorial donations, the beneficiary association receives the information relating to the donation (donor's name except for anonymous donations where this option is offered, amount, any message) directly via its Stripe Connect account or, on a transitional basis, via a transfer made by Funere. The association processes this data as a data controller for its own purposes (for example, acknowledgements or certificates), in accordance with its own privacy policy.
Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or in response to legitimate requests from authorities.
Business transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred subject to equivalent protections.
Your data is primarily stored in secure AWS data centres within the European Union. This location ensures protection according to standards consistent with Swiss and European law.

Permanent preservation: Published death notices and associated memorial content are generally retained permanently to preserve collective memory and historical interest.
Family control: Families may request the modification or deletion of notices via our contact form, subject to verification of legitimacy.
Respectful archiving: Content may be archived in a manner that preserves memory while respecting the privacy of relatives.

Records relating to orders (memorial flowers, trees), payments and donations that have passed through Funere are retained in accordance with Swiss legal obligations (typically 10 years) for financial and accounting transactions.

Request for deletion of your personal data, subject to our legal obligations and the legitimate interest of memorial preservation. For death notices, requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Retrieval of your data in a structured format for transfer to another service, where technically possible.
Objection to processing based on legitimate interest, in particular for direct marketing. We will review each request individually.
If processing is based on your consent (newsletters, optional cookies), you may withdraw it at any time.
Important: For data relating to deceased persons, close family members or legal representatives may exercise certain rights concerning the published information.
