Unitas is the Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Italian-speaking Switzerland and has supported people living with visual impairment and their families in everyday life since 1946.
Based in Tenero, Unitas serves as the Ticino and Italian Grisons section of the Swiss Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted and runs practical services across the region: the Braille and audiobook library, the rehabilitation and assistive technology service, the youth service, IT support, the Casa Andreina day centre in Lugano and the Casa Tarcisio residential home for the elderly. It also provides white canes, Braille writing courses, the transcription of documents into accessible formats, and regional gatherings that keep members connected.
A memorial gift to Unitas supports this work and helps make culture, independence and social life accessible to people who cannot see, or see only partially.
Unitas holds the ZEWO seal of approval, the Swiss quality label for charitable organisations.
