Der ehemalige Urner Skirennfahrer Walter Tresch ist gestorben. Das teilt seine Familie am Dienstag mit. Tresch sei am 29. August nach längerer Krankheit im Beisein seiner Familie zu Hause friedlich eingeschlafen. Der gebürtige Bristner bestritt zwischen 1968 und 1978 über 200 Weltcup- und Europacup-Rennen. Insgesamt stand er 14 Mal auf dem Weltcup-Podest, viermal zuoberst. Auch bei den Olympischen Winterspielen 1972 in Sapporo war Tresch am Start und gewann in der Kombination Silber. Diese Disziplin war damals noch nicht olympisch, galt aber als integrierte Skiweltmeisterschaft. In der Saison 1975/1976 gewann Tresch die Weltcup-Disziplinenwertung in der Kombination. Walter Tresch wurde 78 Jahre alt. Er hinterlässt eine Frau, vier Kinder und sechs Grosskinder.
