Death notice

Peace is not everything, but without peace everything is nothing

Funere honors Willy Brandt, German politician and statesman, Chancellor of West Germany from 1969 to 1974, who passed away on October 8, 1992, in Unkel. Born on December 18, 1913, in Lübeck, Brandt became a key architect of postwar European diplomacy and a global symbol of peace and reconciliation. As leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he launched the groundbreaking Ostpolitik, aimed at normalizing relations with Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. In 1971, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his courageous efforts to bridge the East-West divide during the Cold War. His silent kneeling at the Warsaw Ghetto memorial remains one of the most powerful gestures of modern history. Willy Brandt’s vision of humanity, peace, and unity continues to inspire political and moral leadership around the world.
